Galapagos - The Enchanted Islands! This group of volcanic islands far off the coast of Ecuador and its smaller islets play host to a remarkable and very isolated avifauna made famous by renowned British naturalist Charles Darwin. It has been a long time since we first visited these magical islands. Organizing and running a tour to these islands using a ship became a very difficult and risky venture, so we stopped going. Now, we are very happy to report that our colleagues at Bird's Wildlife & Nature have found a fantastic alternative that offers a unique tour where you can see up to 28 of the fabled endemic bird species, alongside sea lions, giant tortoises, marine iguanas and much more. This special island-hopping tour differs from the traditional Galapagos cruises in that it is land-based, staying in lovely hotels from where you take smaller boat trips to the island birding sites, plus buses to the highlands, and hikes to areas that no ship or regular visitor ever goes. This is really exciting! For those interested in exploring some of Ecuador, there is a mainland extension.
